Overview

Buss Global is a global container investment and management group. We are one of the largest independent owners and managers of marine containers. Since inception, we have originated and managed assets in excess of USD 3.7 bn. We work closely with our sister group, Buss Capital Invest GmbH in Hamburg and are a market-leader in closed-end container funds operating out of Germany and Singapore.

Buss Global has close working relationships with the world’s leading container lessors such as Textainer, Seacube, Seaco, TAL International, Florens and CAI.
The Buss Global entities are the first to be awarded the status of Approved Container Investment Enterprise (ACIE) under Singapore’s Maritime Finance Incentive scheme (MFI), which was created by the Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore to provide a business framework for container lessors to promote the growth of Singapore as an international maritime centre.

FUNDING & DIVESTMENTS

Since 2008, Buss Global has successfully issued and closed multiple closed-end funds which includes 2 Single A rated ABS structures executed in 2013 and 2015 respectively. We have also divested USD 1.35 bn of assets to an array of financial and industry buyers. Funds initiated by our sister group – Buss Capital include 27 mutual funds, 6 private placements and 40 direct investments.

Since inception in 2003, Buss Capital / Buss Global have won numerous awards including:
  • Marine Money Deal of the Year: Buss Capital 279.25 Million Container Asset Backed Secured Notes
  • Procontra Rankings: Ranked 1st and 6th in returns amongst all German funds across assets classes in 2015 and 2013 respectively
  • FondsMedia Asset Research: Buss Capital was ranked highest amongst all German container investment funds on all 3 metrics: transparency, past performance and current performance
  • FERI EuroRating Awards: Best Communications Award for two consecutive years
  • Scope Management Rating: A+ Rating in 2010 & 2012 for Management Rating scored on Fund Structure, Competence and Performance
  • Awarded ACIM: The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore awarded Buss Global the status of “Approved Container Investment Manager” in 2009. Buss Global is the first investment manager to receive such accreditation in Singapore.

DIVERSIFICATION

Buss Global Management Pte. Ltd. (“BGM”) is the servicer of the various Buss Funds managing operational and financial results of its fleet.
Container portfolio provides cross sectional diversification across the container shipping industry.

FUND MANAGEMENT – INVESTMENT AND OPERATIONAL

Buss Capital / Buss Global have teams in Hamburg and Singapore focusing on different parts of the investment process.
  • Hamburg-based Buss Capital focuses on sourcing of equity and investor relations
  • Singapore-based BGM focuses on debt sourcing, container sourcing and manager relations

BGM AS ADMINISTRATOR

BGM acts as Administrator with responsibility for manager oversight and surveillance, reporting and compliance.
In its role as the Administrator, BGM is responsible for the following functions:

One-off

  • Selection of managers including Replacement Managers
  • Negotiation of management fee
  • BGM negotiates its management agreements with the aim to align interest
  • Emphasis is put on the master lease management fee and disposal fee to incentivize managers to focus on their master lease and disposal capabilities
  • Management fees are also applied on the net operating income to incentivize managers to control their operating costs

Ongoing

  • Receiving reports from managers and aggregating them for Issuer Servicer Reports
  • Monitoring and surveillance of managers’ performance
  • Monitoring of managers’ financial health and administration of management agreement
  • Review of depreciation policy
  • Allocation of expenses among various owners
  • Consulting with tax advisors for preparation of tax returns in applicable jurisdictions
  • Review of Exit Strategy — Industry / Financial Buyer, US Capital Markets, Buss KG Market Solutions
